About UNSW Air Quality and Odour Laboratory

UNSW Air Quality and Odour Laboratory is the most advanced lab in Australia for emissions analysis.

Our research in the UNSW Air Quality and Odour Laboratory is focused on (1) the characterisation of complex emissions from industrial and commercial sources as well as baseline ambient conditions, (2) developing analytical and assessment (sampling) techniques that use a range of advanced chemical and sensorial methods, and (3) measuring level of airborne pollutants and identifying sources and at-risk communities.

Through these approaches we are able to:

  1. Understand the formation and emission of odorants from different sources.
  2. Study the fate of chemicals through different phases (liquid-gas) to improve the understanding of emission processes and behaviour and the performance of treatment systems.
  3. Reduce environmental impact through improving industrial processes, creating improved modelling systems, as well as community engagement practices.
  4. Characterisation of local versus long-range sources of air pollution.
